I love my morning coffee, a lot.
I used to drink the freeze dried stuff and a lot of it, but in recent years I have switched to one quality cup a day(no judgement if you still enjoy drinking freeze dried coffee). Coffee is part of my morning routine. But in January coffee became a necessity to be able to function and help my body get back into that early morning work routine after the holidays, haha. That’s why I wanted to share my top 5 places to get a great cup of coffee (there are so many more, but these are the places I frequent)
Motherland coffee. It’s so sad to say goodbye to my favourite Joburg coffee shop as I move to a new client in February closer to Pretoria and will no longer be commuting to the city of gold. But this might be good for my budget because having a motherland coffee in our office building… its so good, but oh so bad for my wallet, hehe. My absolute favourite coffee on their menu is their traditional cappuccino; nothing like a double shot of espresso and frothy milk in a small cup to get you going in the morning.
Seattle coffee. For when there is no Motherland nearby (aka you are in Pretoria not Joburg) Next week I will be going back to my bible study classes 2 evenings a week and those are the days where I NEED my Seattle coffee to help me stay awake and learning. As most of you probably know Seattle has a rewards program every 10 coffees you get a free one - score! But, they also give you a discount if you take your own mug which I think is awesome.
Vintage coffee is for Sunday mornings. It might seem like I have an allocated coffee shop for every occasion/day-that assumption would be correct. But that doesn’t mean I buy a cup of coffee everyday. Not only does Vintage coffee fuel my early Sunday mornings serving at Urban Life Church, but their coffee beans provide me with the best black coffee during my work days (the days I don’t splurge on a motherland traditional coffee). If you prefer a cup of black coffee then definitely try their batch coffee with a breakfast croissant, yum.
Therbadore is my go to coffee to stock my house with. I was gifted a Nespresso pod machine and I love that I can bulk order their pods. I normally get some flavoured pods for days where I want something different and for my coffee drinking guests. I love that they have changed their pods to be compostable.
Truth coffee, located in Cape Town and serve great coffee in the coolest steam-punk themed coffee shop. I love their vibe and when I find myself in Cape Town I inevitably find myself drinking a cup of coffee there. How else does one get through the 60days of January?
There are many other good coffee spots like Tribeca, I love their hazelnut latte. I would love it if you would share your favourite coffee spots with me. If you are not a coffee person, we can still be friends ;) #notsponsored
We are officially half way through this year!
I can hardly believe it! This is a good time to take a moment and take stock of this year so far.
What have you accomplished?
What has surprised you?
What have you learnt?
What has inspired you?
What do you still want to do?
What do you still want to learn?
How are you doing: physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually?
I would love to hear how you year has been so far.
Here are some of my mid-year favourites:
Here is one of my new creations: Fruit of the Spirit colouring pages and posters (free download). I was recently reminded of the importance of allowing the Holy Spirit to work and move in and through my life, but also reminded how important it is to desire more of the fruit of the spirit. So, being a designer by trade, I obviously designed something tangible that I could put up as a physical reminder to myself.
Second on my list is a song that is currently playing on repeat on my daily playlist: Raise a hallelujah song by Bethel. This song is from their album that they launched earlier this year. More than just the lyrics that are amazing I find the story behind the song so powerful. Knowing the context of the song brings new meaning to the song, you can watch the video here.
My sister introduced me to one of my favourite poets Upile Chisala, before I even knew I liked poetry. Her poems are short, sweet and hit home. They are raw and honest bite-size poems. Reading her words on the pages wasn’t enough for me, her poems are so impactful I wanted to engage and share them. So, I created printable posters you can download here and I embroidered two of the quotes to put up in my house - now just to decide where they will look best.
Sharing is caring, and I love sharing other people’s work that inspire me. As a fellow creative I know how much time, energy, thought and love go into a creation. Rene deBeer has an incredible instagram account where she creates God-inspired ideas into photoshop creations or illustrations. Her creations are prophetic, powerful and aesthetically pleasing.
Rad + Happy is an amazingly creative human with her own business. What I love about her is her seemingly never-ending positivity and happiness that she spreads through her work and instagram stories. I love that she is a mom, business owner and creator all in one. Oh, and she even had a podcast! If I lived in America, I would definitely buy all of her creations and would become best friends with this amazing creative human.
That’s all for this month. If there are some cool things that you are digging right now I would love if you would share it with me.
❄️It's officially winter ❄️
The mornings and evenings are cold and getting colder. I find myself drinking more coffee ☕️, cuddling under blankets 🧣every chance I get and craving hot chocolate 🍫 almost daily, but here are a few more things I am really enjoying this month
A friend of mine designs beautiful christian apparel. Ethereal Closet's designs are gorgeous and there t-shirts are made from great material and the cut is simply unique. Super comfortable, super beautiful and unique. Love, love love. Go check out her instagram page and order your own shirt today!
I am also totally obsessed with Morgan Harper Nicholas's work! She writes short quotes, poems, stories from the stories people send her and her advice is always spot-on! I find more often than not that her writing is just want I needed at that very moment in time. There are so many favourites I don't know where to start. Just promise me you will go read her writings?
My favourite podcast currently is Hillsong creative podcast, just wow! Hillsong has set new standards when it comes to creativity and church and how those two are intertwined and support each other. The podcast is no different. And no, you don't need to be a creative to listen to the podcast. The sound and production quality of this podcast is really good and so is the content.
I am also currently volunteering with an amazing organisation called A21. A21 is a non profit which aims to bring an end to human trafficking and slavery in the 21 century. Yes, this is a real thing. Slavery still exists. There are more slaves in the world today than ever before in history. And only 1% of them will ever be saved. I am currently organising the annual walk for freedom in Pretoria which will happen the morning of 19th October 2019. Anyone is welcome to join the walk, it is free and we are going to raise awareness around the topic of human trafficking. Also if you would like me to come talk at your school, work, church or small group just send me an email.
Lastly, I found this amazing business on instagram this week called Dwell differently. They create removable tattoos, printable cards and key rings to help you memorise scripture verses. I totally swoon when I see something that is beautifully designed and crafted, yet practical.
